October Wellness in Aurora: Supporting You and Your Family Through Life’s Transitions

As a midwife for over 35 years and also as a family nurse practitioner, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside women and families through some of life’s most important and challenging moments. From the first days of pregnancy through perimenopause and beyond, I’ve seen firsthand how deeply these profound transitions can impact the whole person — and how empowering real support can be through those transitions.

Hearing the stories of my patients’ reminds me why I do what I do: because every person deserves a health care provider who values their story and experiences and cares for their whole self.

Fall in the Willamette Valley: A Season of Change

Fall is one of the most beautiful times of year in the Willamette Valley. The air is crisp, the leaves are turning, and farmers’ markets are filled with seasonal foods like squash, pears, and greens.

This season of change is also a reminder that our bodies experience transitions, too. The shorter days, cooler weather, and busier schedules can affect every stage of life in unique ways:

  • For women: Perimenopause and menopause can shift everything from mood and sleep to metabolism, bone strength, and heart health. Just like pregnancy, these transitions affect every system in the body.

  • For men: Energy and stamina can ebb with the season, especially as testosterone levels naturally decrease with age. This can impact mood, muscle strength, and overall vitality. Being overweight can exacerbate low energy levels.

  • For children: Seasonal shifts can challenge young immune systems. Busy school schedules, co-mingling with buddies,  the sharing of germs, and less sunlight mean kids may need extra support to stay healthy. Avoiding the use of antibiotics if at all possible is very important for a child’s gut health and resistance to future infections. In addition, the microbiome secretes 90% of the Serotonin needed for brain health. Alterations in the microbiome can not only lead to digestive dysfunction, it can also lead to anxiety and depression in children.

  • For aging adults: Fall and winter often bring changes in circulation, joint stiffness, and immune health. This is a time when preventive care becomes especially important.

Just as we prepare our homes for the colder months, preparing our bodies with the right support helps us move through seasonal and life transitions with strength and resilience.

Practice Holistic Medicine

Holistic health care means looking at the whole person, not just the symptom. At Willow Holistic Wellness, we focus on:

  • Nutrition & hydration using local, seasonal foods that are abundant in our valley this time of year

  • Restorative sleep & stress support with lifestyle practices, natural remedies, and supplements

  • Hormone balance through perimenopause, menopause, and healthy aging in men and women

  • Preventive practices like IV therapy, targeted supplements, and wellness routines to strengthen the immune system before cold and flu season

When we address the whole picture, patients feel supported, informed, and empowered to take charge of their health.

Caring for Families in Aurora

Although much of my work is with women, my heart is for the whole family. Each stage of life has its own needs, and holistic medicine allows me to support everyone:

  • Children need extra immune support and nutrition as the seasons change.

  • Adults benefit from tools that help manage stress, energy, and life transitions.

  • Men often need care for stress, hormones, stamina, and heart health as they age.

  • Older adults thrive with strategies to improve mobility, strengthen immunity, and maintain quality of life.

When one member of the family feels their best, the whole household benefits. That’s what holistic care is all about.
